All about pollutants and their impact on your skin.

by {save}

You have probably thought about the effects of breathing pollution and how it impacts your lungs, but have you ever thought about the way pollution can impact your largest organ, your skin?

Even if you don't live in a large city where you see smog daily, your skin may still be impacted by other environmental stressors. Unfortunately these pollutants can be inside your home as well. Dust, smoke, or chemicals released in the air from things like hairspray, paint, or even cooking sprays can be in the air inside your home. Long-term exposure to pollutants indoors or out can cause dullness, acne, dryness, hyperpigmentation or irritation.

These things can be hard to avoid since our face and other parts of our body may be exposed often, and for long periods of time.

The first step in reducing indoor pollutants is to increase ventilation. The less concentrated pollutants are in your home, the less damage they can cause.

Another thing you can do is eat a diet rich in vitamins and minerals. Look for lots of fresh colorful fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins C, E, Selenium and Zinc. The Antioxidants in these foods will help the repair process internally.

{save} has skincare to help repair and protect the skin as well. It's a line called Anti-Pollution and the name says it all.

We have an Anti-Pollution Sleeping Mask (my personal favorite), rich in antioxidants like Ectoin, a member of the so called “stress protection molecules”. Ectoin is capable of protecting your skin and skin cells from the whole spectrum of various urban stress factors (including air pollution) induced aging and damage. The best part…This mask WORKS WHILE YOU SLEEP! Multi-tasking at its finest! Who doesn't want to wake up to soft, smooth skin while knowing these ingredients are working to defend your skin. We didn't stop there though, we also have Anti-Pollution Eye Cream, Anti-Pollution Moisturizer and Anti-Pollution Vitamin C Booster too, all including Ectoin. All of these products boost, heal, rejuvenate and strengthen the skin.

Wearing an SPF everyday is also important since UV is also considered pollution.

It also goes without saying to do your part to save the environment. Pollution today is not the same as what we dealt with as kids and it is hard to imagine what it will be like for generations to come. {save} is proud to be environmentally friendly, read more about our practices!
